Bart sketches 6/05/2010

Hey Bloggers!  As I mentioned in my last post, I went into the city to meet up with some friends and went sketching this past weekend.  I've been enjoying the subway commute by sketching the local riders on my way to the city....

I added color to these drawings with my watercolor set when I got home since it was a bit impractical and cumbersome to do them on the spot.  It always helps to try and remember the clothes those people were wearing:)

It's such a great place to watch people and see how they behave, interact and hold themselves!  

BART sketches 5/29/2010

Welcome back, Bloggers!  This past weekend was jam packed with much activities and events.  Joy and I went to San Francisco to meet up with fellow Pixar animator Jaime Landes for some sketching in the park.  I'll be posting those sketches soon but first up are several pages of my subway drawings on the way to the city....

this last drawing was the final page of my softcover Moleskine which I started about a month and a half ago.  Luckily I had a new one handy for more sketches which I'll be posting this Friday!

New Orleans travel journal Part 6

Well, as promised, we come to the last part of my New Orleans travel journal.  Obviously, these sketches, pictures, and notes only scratch the surface of what I experienced in this great city but I hope they helped convey the great time I had as well as the wonderful sights I saw.

New Orleans travel journal Part 1

Hey Bloggers!  I'm back from my New Orleans trip and I'm super excited to share my sketches with you all!  I've tried to keep the sketches in chronological order and didn't really bother to take out the notes from the sketchbook since I felt it would really add to the pictures.  

sketching on the BART to the airport was really fun since there was a good assortment of interesting people on there.
It was a close call getting to the airport since there was a problem on the tracks that backed up our train and made us late by an hour and a half.  As you can see from my notes, we barely made our flight!  Since I didn't get a chance to draw people at the terminal, I made sure I drew on the plane:)
this next one is of Joy napping on the flight on our way to the stop-over in Dallas.

Commute Sketch- An Interesting Human Being

Wow...just when I thought I had seen it all in my commutes.....Saw this interesting human being get into the bus the other day. He totally had the adolf haircut going on, a super shiny shirt (which I wish I could've done a better job reproducing...sigh....), tight , dark brown leather pants and last but not least, a shiny letter G for a beltbuckle. I don't know where he was headed or what he does.....anybody care to hazard a guess???



He was standing in front of me the entire time which means I couldn't just take the sketchbook out and start drawing. I just kept stealing glances and tried to memorize his looks (trying my hardest not to laugh, of course) and then did a sketch as soon as I got the chance. Then I got home and inked the ruff sketch and colored it with watercolors. Enjoy!

At the train depot

Hey bloggers! This here is a painting I did at the train depot at Redwood City where buses, (along with people) sit around and wait awhile. That tree was quite wierd because it had green leaves on the bottom and red ones at the top. My only guess is that the sun turned them that way. Sorry the front of the bus is cut off too but that's the edge of the sketchbook:)

Commute Sketch-Crossword Puzzle!!!

Saw this dude on CalTrain. He looked very professor-like and was doing a crossword puzzle on the way home.

And speaking of crossword puzzles, I highly recommend the documentary, WORDPLAY, which is now
available on dvd. It features NY Times puzzle editor Will Shortz and a bunch of puzzle fanatics who are determined to become crossword puzzle champions. Very entertaining celebrities like Bill Clinton, Jon Stewart ("Bring it Shortz!!! Bring it!!") and Ken Burns throw in their two cents along the way.
