Sketching at the Berkeley Campus

I wanted to shake things up a bit and sketch at a different location last week so Joy and I went to U.C. Berkeley.  The Cal game happened to be playing on a giant screen outside of Zellerbach Hall so there was a good amount of students watching.  Little did they know that THEY were being watched as well:)

There was also a group of dance students practicing a routine and doing stretches so I drew them too!

Have a great week everyone!

I really like the loose sketches, especially the one with water colour. I really enjoyed the Q&A! See you next week Chris!

more great sketches Chris!

This may sound like an odd question, but when you do sketches involving quick motion (like your dancers), how does your mind interpret everything before you draw? For example I get in a muddle thinking where the limbs go, then the gestures wrong, then the balance is wrong etc. lol.

Edwin-Thanks man! I'll catch you at the next Q&A

Nori-Yeah, trying to sketch people or animals in constant motion is quite challenging and frustrating. One thing I try to do is to draw small. This helps because you can quickly capture the overall impression of a pose without slaving over the details. Another thing I try to do is look at a pose once, tell myself what it is about it that strikes me (whether its the angle of the back, the lean, etc.) and that is what I put down right away. The rest of the body may or may not be acurate but all I am seeking is the overall feel of the pose. Hope this helps!

Trent-Thanks so much. Yes, I am back as an AM mentor. Let me know if theres anything you want me to check out at some point. I'd be glad to give a few critiques!
