Gesture Drawings @ Pixar Part 1

Hey Bloggers!  I had a chance to go to Gesture drawing class again this past Tuesday here at work.  Heres a few 30 second and 1 minute gestures that I did.

I felt a bit rusty after not having done it in awhile so some of these could be a bit stronger and a little less muddy in terms of line of action and poses.

Stay tuned for more to come

This is great! I love how fluid some of these feel. I just started a figure drawing class today, do you have any tips on it?

I like them man, do u have a general start point when u do these? Everything on your blog is incredible, all you drawings have so much life.

Meredith and Trent-Thanks for the kind words! I think the best advice I can give with life drawing is to have persistence. You will have tough days when your drawings will just make you mad and you will want to stop. DONT! Keep at it and you'll see yourself improve. As a general rule, when the poses are shorter, I tend to draw smaller so I don't end up running out of time. Try to capture the overall gesture first before going into the little details.

Another thing I keep in mind is telling a story with each drawing. Try to push the pose beyond what you see in front of you. Exaggeration is key in animation so doing this in your life drawings will help develop your eye for good poses. Anyway, I hope this helps! Take care and keep drawing!

Hi Chris.
Been looking around in here for a while now, and I really love your sketches :)

Do Pixar offer a lot of these "out side work" art trainings? And are there any teachers around to guide you, or are you relying on your own studying/collegues?

I just started on my bachelor in character animation, and I definatly see gesture drawing/sketching as a integral part of animation (medium aside), so it's great to hear that studios (or at least pixar, but I guess others as well) offer this kind of thing.

Sorry for the question-attack ;)
Keep up the great work!
