Eastern Europe Travel Journal Part 4

Hey guys!  Well, after a brief lull, I'm back updating my blog and most importantly, trying to finish sharing my Eastern Europe Travel journal with all of you.  Make sure to follow the links to Parts 1, 2, and 3 to catch up.

After 5 days in Vienna, our little intrepid group head out to Prague by train.  It's a nice, relaxing ride with plenty of time to read, sketch and nap...

Arriving in Prague, we were immediately greeted by the Charles Bridge, which was first constructed around 1357 to connect the Prague Castle with the Old Town Square.

Looking out over the bridge, you get a lovely view of the Vltava River.

Another jaw-dropping sight in Prague was Alphonse Mucha's artwork.  We had the chance to visit a museum that housed his Slav Epic.  Many people know Mucha's work from posters and prints but it's clear that as he grew older and more well known, he was passionate about telling the story of his heritage.  With the Slav Epic, he brings forth the tale of his Slavic ancestors through larger than life paintings.  As you can see from the photos below, the paintings are IMMENSE and really helped give the pictures a real sense of cinematic scale.

...In addition to paintings, Mucha was also commissioned to do some stained glass....
...as well as murals.  There's NOTHING the guy couldn't do!
Here's a sketch he did for one of the wall panels...
Anyway, I couldn't look at Mucha's art without being inspired to draw so here's a few more pages from the old sketchbook...
