Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Make sure to come back soon to see Part 3!!
I'm trying my best to do more environment drawings instead of just doing people all the time. It's a good way to develop your eye for composition, studies of light and shadow, etc.
This last one was done at 33 Revolutions Cafe in El Cerrito. Cant say I was all that impressed by the atmosphere in that cafe but they at least had a singer that I could draw.
Have a great week everybody!

There was also a group of dance students practicing a routine and doing stretches so I drew them too!
Have a great week everyone!

This particular fellow was so awesome...he just had his cigarette hanging out of his mouth as he assessed his hand of cards.
And this final page was done at the BART station as we made our way home back to North Berkeley.
Nothing like an entire day's worth of drawing to flex those artistic muscles! Well, the week is over, which means that we've got a whole weekend to go out there and draw so what are you waiting for???!!! Grab those pens and start sketching!
people were on the grass soaking up some sun and enjoying the nice weather:
At Portsmouth Square, there were many Chinese locals who were playing cards, checkers, and trash talking as they gambled the day away:
Come back this Friday to see the next batch!
Hey Bloggers! Today, I wanted to share a step by step process of what I've been really into lately: Etching. I went to the art store and bought a block of linoleum and some basic etching tools which were relatively cheap. Next I decided I wanted to do an owl print so I started doodling some owl designs which you can see here....
Once I settled on the design, I transfered it onto the linoleum. It gets kinda tricky here because you have to keep in mind that this carving will be a NEGATIVE IMAGE of your final picture. The other tricky thing to keep in mind is that what's white will be black and vice versa. Got that? I know, it makes my head hurt too! Anyway, once the design was transferred, I got down to carving out the linoleum with the gouge you see below:
Here is a close up of the linoleum. You dont really have to gouge that deeply into the linoleum but any mistakes you make are PERMANENT! Other than that, I found this to be very therapeutic and relaxing for some reason. You can just listen to music and just gouge away.
Once you're finished gouging everything, you can brush away all the little bits of linoleum and get ready for the fun part! With a small roller, you apply the paint onto the linoleum, press the paper to it (this part is called burnishing). And VOILA! Here is the final picture!
Once you see the image, it's a little bit of a surprise since it's facing the opposite direction. One thing you can do is to check your work in the mirror, especially if you're carving words. Anyway, I hope you guys liked this piece. I'm working on a few more which I'll post as soon as I finish!
Stay tuned for the next blog entry to see the latest hobby / project I've been working on. I'm super excited to share it with you so make sure to come back soon!

Sketching from a model definitely uses a slightly different drawing skillset but I have to keep telling myself that I am telling a story through drawings. I've been slowly making my way through Walt Stanchfield's "Drawn to Life" books and being very inspired by them. I highly recommend them to all professional and aspiring artists out there!

Enjoy!

Look out for more sketches this Friday everyone!
I usually have my trusty Ipod on me and a book to keep me occupied if there aren't enough interesting people around. It really is quite therapeutic.
Part 3 coming soon!

Come back soon for part 2!!!
Mr Darcy, you are such a CAD!
I saw this little girl who seemed to have boundless energy. She had some great poses and I was doing everything I could to keep up with her. I wish I had more time to sketch her.
Stay tuned for more sketches coming soon!
