Thumbnails-A scene from "Sideways"

Lately, I've been taking scenes that I like from films and deconstructing them. It's always great to watch a great actor perform and see how (s)he approaches their craft. I've taken a scene from the movie, "Sideways" where Paul Giamatti's character is playing golf with his buddy played by Thomas Haden Church. He keeps talking while Giamatti's character is concentrating on playing golf, finally causing him to throw the club down and yell at him, telling him to: "Shut up, shut up, SHUT UP! Jeezus christ man, what the hell is wrong with...would you pleease just SHUT UPPPP! FFFFUUCK!!"(Click on the line to see the clip)
I love the tension that Giamatti gets with his character. Every beat and accent feels just right in the scene. Plus, the staggers on his arms are AMAZING when you frame through them. If you can put that into an animated scene, you'd definitely have gold.
It's great how he pauses right before he drops the "F Bomb" too. And he uses the action of ripping the velcro from his glove as an accent as he turns away. Amazing stuff.
Stay tuned for more Thumbnail breakdowns coming soon!

The Process

Lately, several people have written and asked how I go about doing my sketches. Well, here's a picture of the tools of my trade! Generally, I love to draw with a Sakura Jelly Roll Fine pen....Once it gets going, the ink flow is great and it only takes a few seconds to dry. And the best part is that it's waterproof ink.....
Once I get that sketch all done, I usually take out my handy dandy refillable water brush pen. This is such a great tool because you can squeeze it to let just a bit of water out onto the portable watercolor set and right onto the paper. Once you're done, there's no clean up...just wipe the tip off and you're done! Hope this answers your questions out there everyone and I'll be looking for some cool watercolor sketches on your blogs soon!

Bluegrass Fesitval

Hey Bloggers...So about a month ago, I had the chance to check out the Bluegrass Festival at Golden Gate park. Joy and I had a blast! Besides the great music being free, we got to eat lots of kettlecorn, watch different types of people and best of all, sketch!

Here's a picture during the first day of the festival. We were literally stuck amidst a sea of humanity later on in the day but it was still fun.

Quote of theWeek- On Hard Work

"A man is a fool for not putting everything he has, at any given moment, into what he is creating....It's a matter of just sitting down and working."
